
Matt Hontscharuk joined Beringer Capital in January 2025. In his role as Associate Partner, Matt is responsible for leading Beringer’s capital markets activities, deal origination, fundraising, and supporting portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Beringer, Matt commenced his professional career with BMO in 2006 with BMO Capital Markets, spending seven years in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Diversified Industries Groups. During this time, Matt successfully executed an array of advisory mandates – acquisitions, divestitures and equity and debt financings – on behalf of a wide range of clients globally including public issuers, private family-owned businesses, and portfolio investments of private equity funds.
In 2013, Matt joined the BMO Capital Partners Team as a Director and expanded his private investing experience, executing and managing numerous equity and subordinated debt investments. In 2015, Matt joined BMO’s Restructuring Team as a Managing Director before moving on to a secondment in BMO’s Credit Capital Markets team in 2017.
In 2020, Matt joined BMO’s Technology & Innovation Banking Team as Managing Director, Underwriting & Structuring, helping BMO build out a team of 24 professionals across North America focused on providing optimal capital solutions to early-stage, VC-backed technology borrowers. In 2024, Matt switched gears and was given the opportunity to lead BMO’s Audit Team for Personal & Commercial Banking Canada.
Matt holds two MSc’s and one BSc from The London School of Economics and Political Science.
Outside of the office, Matt can be found spending time raising his three boys (including coaching their hockey teams), playing beer league hockey, and working on various DIY projects.
